Homeopathy - Overview

Homeopathy is a word derived from a Greek Word “Homoeos” means “Similar” & “Pathos” means “Disease or Symptoms of a Disease” which means “which can cause can cure (Like Cures Like)!” Symptoms of the disease in a patient actually guide us how to cure them!
Homeopathy is a medical science developed by German physician

Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann.
It is based on the principle of
‘like cures like’. In simple words, it means that any substance that produces symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a person who is unwell. It is referred to as the ‘Law of Similars’.With Homeopathic treatment
We claim to have a beneficial effect in all the diseases , with the help of homeopathic principles with passion to heal the sick(person not disease), has the sole aim to serve Humanity

Definition of health is :
“A state of complete physical, mental and social well- being and not merely the absence of disease or. infirmity”
And

In Homeopathy '' The physician’s high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure, as it is termed''

  PRINCIPLE OF HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy as a science of medical treatment has its own philosophy and its therapeutics based on certain fundamental principles.
These are:

1. Law of Similar-
- founded on a definite law ‘Similia Similibus Curantur’ which means ‘like cures like’.

2. Law of Simplex
It means that only one single, simple medicinal substance is to be administered  at a time.

3.Law of Minimum
Here physician give's medicine to the patients in very minute dose. Which means that quantity of a medicine is though smallest in quantity but produces the least possible excitation of the vital force and yet sufficient to bring the necessary change in it.

4.Doctrine of Drug Proving
In Homeopathy we prescribe only those medicines whose medicinal properties are known through ‘drug proving’. Drug proving is a systematic investigation of pathogenic (disease-producing ) power of medicine on healthy human being of different ages, both sexes and of various constitutions.

5.Theory of Chronic Disease - chronic diseases are caused by chronic miasam Psora, psychosis, syphilis.

6.Theory of Vital Force -
It derives all sensation and performs all the functions of life mainly by means of the immaterial being (the vital force) which animates the material organism in health and in disease.

7.Doctrine of Drug-Dynamisation-

dynamization are the process by the which medicinal properties which are latent in natural substances while in their crude state become aroused and then become enabled to act in almost spiritual manner  to an incredible degree

Master Hahnemann says

"The physician’s high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure"

"The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health, or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable, and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles."

So a Homeopath must take necessary steps regarding diet & regimen considering the patient’s condition & circumstances & if necessary the physician must brought important changes in selecting the diet & regimen for his patients.
“considering the minuteness of the doses in Homeopathic treatment we can easily understand that during treatment everything must be removed from diet & regimen, which can have any medicinal action in order that the small dose may not be overwhelmed & extinguished or disturbed by any foreign medicinal irritant”

1) Role of Diet & Regime in Acute Disease -

The desire of the patient affected by an acute disease with regard to food and drink is certainly chiefly for things that give palliative relief; they are, however, not strictly speaking of a medicinal character, and merely supply a sort of want. The slight hindrances that the gratification of this desire, WITHIN MODERATE BOUNDS, could oppose to the radical removal of the disease will be amply counteracted and overcome by the power of the homeopathic suited medicine and the vital force set free by it, as also by the refreshment that follows from taking what has been so ardently longed for

2) Role of Diet & regime in Chronic Disease -

The careful investigation into such obstacles to cure is so much the more necessary in the case of patients affected by chronic diseases,
as their diseases are usually aggravated by such noxious influences and other disease
causing errors in the diet and regimen, which often remain unnoticed.

-Need to start innocent moral and intellectual recreation, active exercise in the open air in almost all kinds of weather (daily walks, slight manual lobar), suitable, nutritious, unmedicinal food and drink, etc.

-Dishes containing vinegar or citric acid are injurious to chronic patients

-Ladies with scanty menses – avoid saffron and cinnamon

-With weak stomachs – avoid cinnamon, cloves, pepper, ginger and bitter substances

-With abdominal troubles – avoid vegetables causing flatulence
Use of tobacco should be carefully considered.

- Smoking is some cases of chronic disease may be permitted. But smoking should be always limited and more so if the mental activity, sleep, digestion or the evacuations are defective

-Snuff is a great hindrance in the cure of chronic disease

-Coffee; Chinese and other herb teas,  medicinal vegetable substances unsuitable for the patient’s ,
state; so-called fine liquors , spiced chocolate, odorous waters and perfumes of many kinds;
strong-scented flowers in the apartment;  compounded of drugs, highly spiced dishes and sauces, spiced cakes and ices; crude medicinal vegetables for soups, dishes of herbs, roots and stalks of plants possessing medicinal qualities, old cheese, and meats that are in a state of decomposition, or that passes medicinal properties , the use of sugar and salt, as also spirituous drinks, heated rooms, woollen clothing next the skin, a sedentary life in close apartments, or the frequent indulgence in mere passive exercise (such as riding, driving or swinging)sitting up long at night, uncleanliness, subjects of anger, grief or vexation, a passion for play, over-exertion of the mind or body, especially after meals, dwelling in marshy districts, damp rooms, penurious living, etc.the removal of such obstacles to recovery, and in supplying where necessary the reverse, in order that the cure may not be obstructed or rendered impossible.
